In my opinion, Wikipedia is easy read online encyclopedia that I use to read autobiographies and some historical events in my spare time. Wikipedia has been a website that I have secluded to spare time use because it has been banned as a source in most classes to use. I understand the issues that teachers may have with the site and its credibility, but I have read some things in Wikipedia that is also stated in credible sources.

After reading Purdy's essay about Wikipedia, I fully understand the discrepancies with Wikipedia being a source for a paper. But I find no harm in Wikipedia being used as a tool to brainstorm for ideas for a paper. His essay, explains that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia that continue to grow with information and can be a good tool when writing paper. I agree that Wikipedia can be used but used with caution. Other sources supporting Wikipedia’s information assist the site credibility.

Purdy’s sections on reviewing, conversing, revising, and sharing on Wikipedia are great tools to help you become a better research-based writer. Comparing and contrasting content with updated research helps you understand the importance of good research. Also using such tools help you have a detailed understanding of the content you are writing about. Conversing is a great way to develop knowledge through talking to other researchers about the topic at hand. To conclude, Wikipedia should not be a banned source in research-based writing. Wikipedia can enhance the writing experience for research-based writers.
