First Day Activity

My name is Kristian Hunter and I am currently a junior majoring in Social Work with a minor in Psychology. I am from Cleveland, Ohio. I am a member of SSWA, OURS, and Unified Sisters. Upon graduation next year, I plan to be a Medical Social Worker. My freshman year during winter quarter was when I took my first college composition class, ENG 151. In the beginning, I was quite nervous because of the transition from high school to college. I was afraid the expectations of my teacher compared to my writing skills. Towards the middle of the quarter, I began to become a better writer through peer reviews and making outlines and rough drafts.

College Composition was a true transition from ordinary High School English class. I began to enjoy writing and research through reviewing and discussing different topics during class. I feel ENG 151 could have been more effective by teaching different writing techniques. For example, we should have done a paper in APA style to familiarize the students with that specific writing technique in addition to MLA. ENG308J is a course designed on the topic of the new Digital Age and the 21st century. This course is different than any general composition courses because is circulated around current content and ideas.

Throughout this course, I would like to learn how the increase of technological resources impact the world of writing and  how this affects different cultures and their world of writing. In this course, I am worried about my research skills in connection with the content in the papers. But I plan to do the best of my ability and use the Alden Writing Center to my advantage.
